OK, so you want to know the real me. I like to participate in charity events dressed up as the Star Wars character, Darth Vader (Chewbacca is coming soon). Yes, really. The funny thing is that this comes back full circle to Reiki. Believe it or not, my passion for Star Wars  came about first, when I was a child. The connection to the Force and Reiki was not made until after I finished my Reiki attunement. How does this connect with Reiki, though? Hold onto your hat; we’re going into hyperspace!

The science-fiction movie series, Star Wars, is built around the simplest form or entity in the universe, the Force. What is the Force? Well, it is an energy, entity, or being of a spiritual nature. You cannot see the Force, but you can feel it. You see visions of possible futures and glimpses into the past. You connect with others who can use the Force after they are dead and have become more powerful. You can harness the potential power of the Force through willpower. Want that distant donut in the kitchen but you are in the living room? Use the Force to levitate that donut right into your hand! Literally, the Force is an invisible energy field in which all things exist. Additionally, all things living within the Force are created by the Force, and thus, all things are connected together. In the Star Wars universe, only Sith lords or Jedi masters can utilize the Force, not just everyday people. The Force seems quite limited to only the present moment of now. It does not seem that it can change past events or influence future events. Finally, the story behind the original three Star Wars movies makes its universe out to be rather black-and-white, good-or-bad and leaves no room at all for grey areas. You are evil, or you are good. That’s it!

Compare this to Reiki, and you will see something very similar. Reiki also is the invisible energy field that connects all things and from which all things are created. Everything comes from energy, holds its own energy while it exists, and returns back to a state of pure energy at the end of its existence. Reiki allows its user to see visions and become more connected to beings on the other side, or in the “afterlife.” However, while Reiki won’t help you bring that donut to your location in the living room, it will help you in numerous, arguably more practical, ways. We mentioned here the things that are similar, but what makes it different?

Let’s start with the difference that is most exciting! Reiki is for everyone! All you have to do is learn how to use it, and you don’t have to be a lord, a master, or spend many years studying before you can use it. Reiki is visible. You can train your eyes to see energy in the air, like just above the pavement of a street on a hot summer’s day. Reiki is scientific. Science has proven that living things and nonliving things have an energy field around them all the time; it’s called an electromagnetic field. Spiritualists call this a person’s “aura.” Reiki is not limited by time or space. Have a bad memory that has had a deep impact on your life? Use Reiki to relieve the symptoms from that past event. Do you have an important test coming up that may determine the course of your life? Use Reiki to send positivity to that future situation. Are you upset that a rainforest is disappearing? Use Reiki on the rainforest to help revitalize the area. Since it is true that Reiki is energy, the distance from the recipient of Reiki and the practitioner is meaningless because the recipient receives the energy closest to them. It is the same idea with time.

Do you see the similarities and differences in the Force and Reiki? It is incredibly ironic how these two seemingly unrelated things have come together in my life nearly simultaneously. To be able to cosplay as Darth Vader is a dream come true for me, even more so because it is often done for the benefit of charities. Reiki is an unexpected surprise in my life, and I am very lucky to have found it. I plan to tie Reiki to charity events as well. I will bring Reiki to those who need balance out their life and their bodies. I hope that, one day, you give it a try, too!
